A four-year-old from Newcastle has shown her consideration for the firefighters who are battling the blazes in the Mournes.
Debbie Travers, who attends St Joseph’s Primary School Carnacaville, told her mother, Donna, that she wanted to help.
Donna told the Mourne Observer: “Debbie came to me to ask if we could go to Eurospar and ask them will they donate water and snacks for the firefighters as they are working very hard.
She said: ‘They need water because they will be thirsty and need some snacks’. They are doing a brilliant job saving our mountains and animals from the fires.”
Donna was surprised by the request, though it is indicative of Debbie’s kind nature.
“I was lost for words when she asked me. She is a very thoughtful child, she always looks out for everyone.”
So Donna took Debbie to the Eurospar in Newcastle and made the request, which they kindly agreed to. Then mother and daughter brought the water and snacks to the fire station in Newcastle, where it was welcomed.
Donna said the staff were grateful.
“They said it was so thoughtful and kind to think of them. Debbie even got to go into the command support van to see how they work things. They all were very grateful of all the stuff she left for them and said a big thank you to her.”
