THE draw for the next round of the Championship was held on Monday night and it delivered some interesting clashes. While Kilcoo, Burren, Loughinisland and Carryduff have qualified for the Senior Championship quarter-finals, and Rostrevor, Saval, Drumgath and St John’s are through to the Intermediate last eight, the remaining teams are either looking to stay in the competition, or to avoid relegation. Perhaps the one game from Monday night’s draw that stands out is the relegation play-off meeting of Bryansford and Longstone. The Ford avoided relegation last year after beating Rostrevor, having lost to Loughinisland in the semi-final. This year they will hope to avoid having to play a relegation final but they must beat a Longstone team that won Division 2 a few weeks ago, and who put on some good performances against Ballyholland and Mayobridge. The other Senior relegation semi-final sees An Ríocht take on Bredagh. Both the draws for the Intermediate and Senior third round clashes threw up some interesting contests. In the Intermediate Championship, Liatroim’s reward for progressing on penalties against Darragh Cross is a tie with Clann na Banna while Newry Shamrocks and Tullylish will also do battle. The Senior competition will see Monday night’s losers Ballyholland pitted against Clonduff while Mayobridge and Downpatrick promises to be a tight encounter. The Hoops’ coach Michael Walsh will also be facing his native club. There is only one repeat pairing where Saul will have to try and be more competitive this time round as they will once again meet Shane Mulholland’s Warrenpoint. The exact dates, times and venues for the games are available on the Down website.
