DON’T miss the first ever Newcastle Glees’ performance of ‘The Witches of Eastwick’.
That’s the message from this year’s principal cast members.
‘The Witches of Eastwick’ is a musical based on the 1984 novel of the same name by American author John Updike.
It tells the story of three woman who are frustrated by their mundane existence.
As a result, they manifest the arrival of a mysterious and exciting man.
He dramatically changes their lives, and the lives of those who live in the town of Eastwick.
The show runs for six days (May 28, 29, 30 and June 4, 5, 6), at the Annesley Hall.
The Glees have welcomed a new member in Anthony Fitzpatrick, from Newry, who plays Darryl Van Horne.
He is accompanied by familiar cast members in principal roles, namely Emma Nugent, who plays Alex Spofford, Emma-Jane McKnight as Jane Smart and Katy Keaveney as Sukie Rougemont.
The production team are Laura Kerr (director), Mark Tilley (musical director) and Caitlin Johnston (choreographer).
The stage manager is Clair Williams, and the set manager is Finbar Finnegan.
Emma Nugent, who is also the chairperson of Newcastle Glees, explained why ‘The Witches of Eastwick’ is going to be special.
Emma said: “This show has everything — drama, comedy, incredible music and a bit of magic thrown in.
“It’s one of those productions that you don’t want to miss and a first for Newcastle Glees!”
Katy Keaveney said preparing for this show has tested all her skills.
“It’s my most challenging role with the company so far,” she said.
“So I’m especially excited to share that journey.
“I think audiences are going to have so much fun and hopefully be really impressed by the energy, talent, and heart that’s gone into it.
“I’m really excited for audiences to see how much Newcastle Glees have stepped things up with this show.”
She plays Sukie, who is one of the three women who manifest the arrival of Darryl Van Horne.
“Sukie is such a joy to play!
“She’s kind, a bit scatterbrained and full of heart.
“I think a lot of people will really love her journey in the show.
“My favourite number has to be ‘Make Him Mine’, because I get to perform it with my two incredible girls, EJ and Emma.
“They’re so talented and honestly, they’ve kept me sane throughout this whole busy rehearsal process!”
