GLENADA YWCA/YMCA Ltd has announced it intends to put the well-known Glenada Holiday and Conference Centre up for sale. For more than a century, the centre, located on the South Promenade in Newcastle, has provided guest accommodation and conference facilities. Its spaciousness, convenient location, and spectacular setting alongside Dundrum Bay and the Mountains of Mourne have made it a popular destination for church groups, Christian retreats, holidaymakers, business events, and more.
“After extensive deliberation, consideration of the governing documents of Glenada and principles of good governance, the Glenada Board YWCA/YMCA Ltd has determined that it is in the best interest of the charity, and of those whom it serves, to proceed with the sale of the Holiday and Conference Centre,” a statement explaining the decision to sell the facilities added.
Commenting on the decision, Lynn McKenzie, Chair of the Glenada Board, said it was taken after careful deliberation. “The Glenada Holiday and Conference Centre has not been in regular community use for over five years,” Mrs. McKenzie added. “The organisations involved have reflected on how best to respect Glenada’s legacy while meeting current operational and financial realities. We concluded an underutilised asset serves neither our charitable purpose, nor the needs of the Newcastle community.”
Continuing, Mrs. McKenzie said: “The decision to sell the centre has been made in consultation with the YWCA and YMCA Boards, who are the parent charities of Glenada. We acknowledge that this may be a sensitive time for those who have supported and served the centre over many decades, and we wish to extend our sincere thanks to the staff, volunteers, and guests who have made this such a special place of retreat. We also give thanks to God for the lives that were transformed through the mission and legacy of Glenada. We hope the centre can realise its full potential under new ownership.”
The sale of Glenada Holiday and Conference Centre will be managed by Simon Brien Bradley.
