THIS weekend’s action for Kilkeel Hockey Club brought an abundance of goals as we edge closer to Christmas.

The Kilkeel men’s first XI faced North Down in the Men’s Premier League looking to get back to winning ways. It was a tight affair in the first half with neither side having cutting edge chances but Kilkeel upped their game in the second half.

They took the lead in the early stages with Taylor McConnell the provider before David Finlay doubled the home side’s advantage with a neat finish into the bottom corner.

The final quarter provided the supporters with more goals with a lovely finish from Mark Henning making it 3-0 before David Finlay grabbed his second of the day to make it 4-0.

Neil Stevenson grabbed the fifth late on but couldn’t get the clean sheet as North Down scored a consolation from the final play of the game from a penalty corner.

In the earlier game on Saturday, the ladies’ second XI demolished Priorians, scoring nine goals to gift them a superb victory. The game saw 15 year old Rebecca Purdy score her first hat-trick for the club which is a fantastic achievement.

A brace a piece for Janice McKee and Alexandra Annett along with further goals from Hannah Haughian and Caroline Donaldson secured the three points and an excellent clean sheet.
