Islands Park is set to be developed into a council golf experience for the local community.

NEWCASTLE’S Islands Park looks set to have its own ‘Park Golf Experience’ from next summer.

On Monday, councillors on the Active and Healthy Communities Committee will be advised to approve the development of the facility, in partnership with Royal County Down Golf Club, at Islands Park.

A committee report states: “It is the intention that the Park Golf facility, once developed and operational in summer 2027, will provide an affordable and accessible golf experience for all ages and abilities, including schools, youth groups, older people and disability groups.

“It will support physical activity, social inclusion and community engagement, while enhancing local visitor amenities.”

It is proposed that the council enter into a licence agreement with Royal County Down Golf Club to enable the club to install tee boxes, putting greens and equipment within Islands Park, and to maintain this infrastructure once the project becomes operational.

The local authority would continue to maintain the wider site.
