Ballynahinch Ladies got off to a winning start in their opening league fixture on Friday night against Ballyclare Comrades Ladies. A close and competitive game saw Ballynahinch take the lead after 30 minutes when Chloe Burke powered a header from a Bethany Cosgrove corner beyond the Ballyclare keeper.

Both teams were working hard, with individual battles being fought all over the pitch. A second goal with 60 minutes gone saw Ballynahinch increase their lead. After neat play on the left-hand side, the ball reached Melissa Sloan on the edge of the box, and with a quick turn, she fired a shot into the roof of the net.

Both teams created a number of half-chances before Ballyclare pulled a goal back in the 93rd minute, but Ballynahinch held on to see the game out and take the three points.

The Ballynahinch Ladies Player of the Match was Christine Drain, who stepped into goals following a late injury to regular keeper Lauren Graham.
