In the week that Newcastle bade farewell to its Mersey class lifeboat the Leonard Kent, the Harbour community in the town gathered to commemorate the Newcastle Fishing Disaster of 1843 and to remember all those who have been lost at sea.

Organised by Newcastle Harbour Heritage Association, the Memorial Service took place in the Yacht Club on Tuesday evening (13 January), 183 years from the disaster which claimed the lives of 73 men.
