Easter Monday’s Harry Clarke Cup final will see current Newcastle League Premier Division champions Ardglass take on Downpatrick at Meadowvale.

Aaron Beattie’s Ardglass side booked their spot in Monday’s final with a dramatic 2-1 win over Killough, while Downpatrick—managed by the coaching team of Mark Holland, brother Johnny Holland, Padraig McAteer, and Kevin Trueman—cruised past current Bobby Dalzell holders Strangford 5-0 in Friday’s semi-final at Robert Adams Park.

Ardglass manager Beattie was delighted to get over the line against Killough after a late stoppage-time equaliser allowed Michael Magee to score the winner in extra-time.

“It looked like we were heading out of the competition but, don’t get me wrong, we absolutely battered Killough for the whole of the second half.

“We had chance after chance, we hit the post, we hit the crossbar, and I just thought it wasn’t going to be our night. But then Malachy Crangle popped up at the end with a glancing header to make it 1-1 and at that stage there was only one winner, because Killough were dead on their feet.

“So, we’re happy to be in the final.”
