The Lagan Valley Super 6 series came to a spectacular conclusion at Meet Six last Thursday, with athletes from across the junior and senior ranks producing a host of medals, personal bests and outstanding performances.

The headline performance of the evening came from Harry McVeigh, who stormed to an exceptional 4:49 mile to become the fastest U-14 mile runner in the UK this season. McVeigh had already enjoyed success earlier in the evening, claiming silver in the 100m to complete a memorable night.

Hermione Sheridan continued her excellent form ahead of the upcoming cross country season, taking gold in the U-16 mile in 5:19. Sheridan produced a well-measured race before finishing strongly over the final 100 metres to secure the victory.

There was also success in the throwing events, with Aoife Grant finishing the season as she had started it, with gold in the Hammer. Rónán Grant added another medal to the family haul, taking bronze in the U-18 Men’s Hammer, while Siobhan Grant completed a trio of Grant podium finishes by claiming bronze in the Senior Hammer.

There were plenty of other encouraging performances throughout the evening. Rory McAlinden competed in the U-12 Long Jump, while Rua Gosling produced a strong performance in the U-14 Girls’ Mile.

The hard work of Connaire Óg McVeigh and Senan Gosling also paid dividends, with both athletes recording new personal bests in the Mile following a summer of dedicated training.

With just one competition remaining, the track and field season is now drawing to a close. The Super 6 Series has provided plenty of highlights, with athletes of all ages demonstrating commitment, determination and enthusiasm.
