A local family is brightening up their home again this year with Christmas lights, to raise money for the Evora Hospice. Tommy O’Hare and his family are continuing their annual Christmas tradition by decorating their house with lights.
“For the 20th year running, we’re lighting up our home in Hilltown known as Leode Illuminations, a festive Christmas lights display raising funds for Evora Hospice, which provides vital care and support to local families across the Newry and Mourne area,” Tommy said.
People can view the festive light display each evening during the holiday season at their home at Leode Road. Money for the hospice can be donated at the O’Hare home or online at www.justgiving.com/page/leodeilluminations2025.
“Any donation of any amount is perfect, and we thank you very much for that!” Tommy said. “The house is located just outside Newry, between Mayobridge and Hilltown, one mile down the Leode Road just after the ‘Seven Bends’. There are two signs which will help with directions at the end of the Leode Road.”
The Christmas lights display began on 7 December and will continue into the new year. “The lights are open to anyone in the local community who would like to visit from 5pm to 10.30pm every evening up until January 6th,” Tommy said.
He added that 100 percent of the money raised this year will go to the Evora Hospice, which they selected as their chosen charity because “it is such an amazing cause.”
Tommy and his family have continued this fundraising light display for two decades. “Every year the display gets bigger and better, with lights being added left, right and centre,” Tommy said. “Over the past 20 years, we have raised over £27,000 for the hospice! Every year the total amount is increasing, which is absolutely brilliant,” he said.
