HILLTOWN RACE DRIVER BREAKS RECORD AT BISHOPSCOURT

Hilltown's Tony Greenan told the Mourne Observer about how his record-breaking lap has helped him in the Formula Boss championship.

HILLTOWN racer Tony Greenan is the proud new holder of the Bishopscourt car lap record, following a magnificent drive in rounds three and four of the Formula BOSS (Big Open Single Seaters) Ireland Championship on Sunday 19 May.

Driving his F3 car, a 2.0 litre Dallara F317 Mercedes, Greenan lapped the Bishopscourt circuit in a time of 1.02.358, having already broken the record with a 1.03.500 lap earlier in the day.

The previous record was held by Paul O’Connell, who lapped the course in 1.03.560 in 2019.

Greenan complemented his record-breaking lap by recording two first place finishes and two pole position finishes in Downpatrick.

He said he knew he was in with a chance of breaking the course record after his performance in qualifying.

“I knew that I had a good chance of breaking the record because I was quick in qualifying.

“I found out straight after the race, my pit crew told me and I was overjoyed,” Greenan said.
