KILKEEL’S men’s and women’s sides will both contest Irish finals at Lisnagarvey on Saturday.
It has been described as one of the biggest days in the hockey club’s history.
The women’s side, managed by Brian Niblock, take on Bangor in the club’s first ever appearance in the Irish Hockey Challenge final, while Gordon Cracknell’s men’s team take on North Down in a maiden Irish Hockey Trophy final.
Women’s manager Niblock, who played for Kilkeel from youth level into his early 30s and managed the men’s team from 2015 to 2018, explained the significance of Saturday’s finals.
“Back when I was managing the men in 2018, we got to the Kirk Cup final, that was the biggest game (in the club’s history) until now.
“To have two teams playing on the same pitch in Irish finals on the same day is incredible.
“It has to be one of the biggest days in the club’s history, if not the biggest day.”
