Conor McGurk Cup quarter-final

Louth 1-13 Down 3-14

A BURST of scoring from Louth that yielded 1-4 in the final quarter of this game was not enough to halt a mighty performance from Down’s hurlers.

Down were dominant for the vast majority of the game, and nine different scorers found the target at Darver last night (Thursday).

Carryduff’s Liam Blaney top scored with 2-1, both of his goals were scored in the first half.

Portaferry’s Cahal Coleman scored 0-4 while Castlewellan’s Tiernan Connolly also found the net before half time.

Down led by 2-3 to 0-4 after 17 minutes, and by half time they were ahead by nine, 3-6 to 0-6.

The two teams went score for score in the first 14 minutes of the second half.

While the Wee county managed to get a goal in the final stages of the game, Down maintained their dominance.

Down play Derry in the semi-final on Saturday at QUB Dub arena 1pm, with the winner due to take on either Ulster University or Donegal who are playing in the other semi-final.

Down scorers: Liam Blaney 2-1, Cahal Coleman 0-4 (one 65), Tiernan Connolly 1-1, Ben Teggart 0-3 (two frees), Liam Savage 0-1, Ben Christie 0-1, Sean McCarthy 0-1, Tom Murray 0-1, Michale Dorrian 0-1 each.
