On the 13th of September, Kathryn Russell took on the Seven Peaks Challenge of climbing the highest peaks in the Mournes. This consisted of a distance of 25K and 2,300 metres elevation, and took just under nine hours to complete. Kathryn completed the challenge in memory of her “incredible Dad,” Clive Russell. She raised £3,710 for two amazing charities, both located in Northern Ireland: Chest, Heart and Stroke, and Action Cancer.
Sadly, Clive suddenly passed away on the 17th of September 2024 from a catastrophic brain haemorrhage, aged 69. “Dad was extremely fit and healthy and had no knowledge of any health concerns,” Kathryn added. “He was our rock, and this devastation has completely shattered our hearts and the world we knew with it. We loved to keep active, which was my reason for completing this challenge.”
Kathryn also expressed her gratitude for the wonderful support the fundraising challenge received. “I want to say a massive thank you for the generosity shown. We, as a family, are completely blown away by the total raised, and we are extremely appreciative of the kindness shown and the lovely messages about Dad. He truly was one of a kind, a true gentleman, and we hope that the money that has been raised will make a difference and help those that need it the most. The greatest gift in this life was being able to call him Dad.”
The seven mountains that form the Seven Peaks Challenge are Slieve Lamagan, Slieve Meelbeg, Slieve Meelmore, Slieve Bearnagh, Slieve Commedagh, Slieve Binnian, and Slieve Donard.
