THE odd light shower did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm shown by everyone participating in the most recent special occasion at Crossgar Golf Club; Lady Captain’s Day.
The Lady Captain, Patricia Magee, had everything planned to the very last detail and the competition was executed to perfection.
It really fell into two parts as she had a special competition on Friday morning especially for those ladies only wishing to play nine holes. The golf was enjoyed as was the hospitality shared over the lunch.
The Lady Captain was back very early on Saturday morning to start all over again and in total over 100 members and guests played golf on a course that was in great condition thanks to the greenkeepers, David and Leslie Watson, and many other hard-working volunteers. Her hospitality was also extended to include three past Lady Captains no longer playing golf.
As is the custom, the prizes were given first to the men, junior members and guests and then to the eagerly waiting lady members wanting to hear the results and see who was going to win the array of prizes on show.
Ably assisted by Crossgar GC Vice Lady Captain, Maeve Fay, the prizes were distributed as follows:
Gents’ prizes: 1st Gent – Jimmy Keenan, 2nd Gent – Mickey Murray, Best Gross Gent – David Watson, Gents Front Nine – Matthew Woods, Gents Back Nine – Ross Douglas.
Gents Longest Drive – John Curlett, Gents Nearest the Pin – John Dickson.
The gents’ twos pot was shared by J Lyons, J Dickson, A Phillips, J Keenan and A Bell (half the pot went Martin Coyle for his hole in one).

The ladies’ twos pot was shared by Alison Rooney and Mary Rice.
Having enjoyed the hospitality after playing, a good number returned in the evening for the prize ceremony.
