Castlewellan GAC hosted a truly memorable night at Slieve Donard Hotel on Saturday, as the club’s much-anticipated Jungle Fundraiser brought together hundreds of supporters for an evening of entertainment, laughter and community spirit.
The event, proudly supported by local sponsors The Hatch Street Food and Hillyard House Hotel, sold out within hours of tickets being released, highlighting the incredible backing the fundraiser received from the local community.
Delivered in partnership with Empower Events, the ballroom was transformed into a jungle-themed arena, with 24 brave contestants taking part in live trials in front of a packed audience.
The atmosphere on the night was electric, with family, friends, club members and local businesses all coming together to support Castlewellan GAC.
After a night full of jungle trials, laughter and plenty of tribulations, Kevin Duffin was crowned King of the Jungle after defeating Damien McGrady in the grand final.
Damien, who topped the iDonate fundraising charts, commented on Kevin’s victory, saying: “I knew Kevin had me on that last challenge, as he is known to drink a pint quicker than me!”
Kevin, who took part in the event with wife Kelly, said: “The entire experience has been amazing and it’s brilliant to be crowned King of the Jungle, but the club is the real winner.”
The fundraiser was organised by Chris Anderson, alongside his dedicated team of Andrea Keenan, Clare Dougherty, Aine McDowell, Brian McAlinden, Cillian Keaveney, Kevan Owens and Paul Hanna, who worked tirelessly over recent months to bring the event to life.
Their efforts, alongside the commitment of the contestants and the generosity of sponsors and supporters, helped make the night a tremendous success.
A spokesperson for Castlewellan GAC said: “The support we received for the Jungle Fundraiser has been unbelievable.
“From our contestants and sponsors to every person who bought a ticket, donated, helped at events or volunteered behind the scenes, we are extremely grateful.
“It was a fantastic night for the club and the wider community, and one that will live long in the memory.”
Castlewellan GAC extended sincere thanks to main sponsors The Hatch Street Food and Hillyard House Hotel, alongside premium sponsors Quinn’s Bar, DJ Magiggs, Laverty’s Bar Mayobridge and Centra, as well as Empower Events, the Slieve Donard Hotel, the contestants, all the volunteers and everyone who supported the memorable fundraiser in any way.
Although the main event has now taken place, the iDonate page remains open, with anyone wishing to support the Castlewellan GAC Jungle Fundraiser still able to do so via the fundraising page.
