KILCOO resoundingly defeated Scotstown in Saturday’s Ulster Club semi-final, on a scoreline of 5-10 to 0-14, to exact revenge on the Monaghan champions who knocked the Magpies out of last year’s competition.

The win returns Kilcoo to the provincial final for the fourth time in the last five editions of the decider (there was no competition played in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic).

Their appearance in the final, which will be played on December 8 will be the club’s sixth final. They are bidding to win their third Seamus McFerran Cup, having won in 2019 and 2021.

The emphatic win for Kilcoo only serves to show that they must go into the final as firm favourites.

Scotstown were expected to put up a big challenge, as the Monaghan side is filled with experienced campaigners. However, Kilcoo brushed them aside with ease thanks to goals from Miceal Rooney (two) Christopher Rooney and Ceilum Doherty. The other goal came from a Shane Carey own goal.

The club are still chasing the Down record of five Ulster Senior Club Championship titles, which is held by Burren.

Their opponents in the final are Tyrone’s Errigal Ciaran. Incredibly the senior Club Championship has only been won by a Tyrone team twice, both times by Errigal Ciaran, who last won the competition in 2002.
