KILKEEL High School’s Year 8 Girls’ football team won the final of the Electric Ireland NI Schools Cup ast Tuesday (2 May) at the Danny Blanchflower Stadium, Belfast. The girls beat Blessed Trinity on penalties after a closely contested match. The score was 3-3 after full time with goals coming from Maddie and Carly, who scored twice. Then in extra time, Zoey scored what looked like the winner, only to be denied the victory by another Blessed Trinity goal about a minute later.
At the end of extra time it was 4-4 and the girls had to step up bravely for a penalty shootout. Another close encounter ended up in sudden death and it was the Kilkeel girls who came out on top, with goalkeeper Evie keeping her cool and making a super save to put Kilkeel ahead in the shootout.
