KILKEEL High School contested the Girls U-16 Danske Schools’ Cup last Tuesday at Windsor Park against Portadown College.  Unfortunately, the girls were narrowly defeated 1-0.

With the occasion so big, it took a while to settle into the game and Portadown managed to get an early goal after they were awarded a contentious throw in.

As the first half progressed, Kilkeel got back into the game, creating a few attacks and looking good going into the half-time break.

The second half brought with it a close game but Kilkeel were unable to break down a very defensive Portadown side.

Kilkeel High School are so proud of all the girls in the squad who have achieved so much in getting into this prestigious and historic final, being the first girls schools’ final ever to played at the National Stadium. The school would also like to thank all their pupils, teachers and family and friends of their players who travelled to Belfast in support of the team.

It was a day that the whole school will never forget and what an incredible experience for the young players! Special mention goes to Kilkeel’s captain and goalkeeper, Zara Maguire, for her stand out performance, highlighted with her being awarded Player of the Match.
