DESPITE a fabulous one-point win in Clones, as the dust settled on Sunday afternoon, it was more disappointment for Down.
While they had upheld their end of the bargain, other results had conspired against them and a return to Division Three for 2026 was confirmed.
After the game, Conor Laverty reflected on the positives of a league campaign that saw his side compete strongly with all their opponents.
The Down manager said, “We knew coming here today, I would have felt it was in our own hands – that the other results, with Cavan and Meath looking for promotion, that they were going to get victories.
“So fair play to Cork and Louth for getting their two victories, but I’m very, very proud of the lads. It’s weird saying this when we got relegated but I think it’s been a very positive league campaign.”
