LEMONADE Shoelace’s output is flowing in 2026 as the savvy psych rock and electronica merchant released a new EP on Friday called ‘Magnetised’.
On his social media account, he wrote: “This collection of songs is kind of like a short diary with escapism, introspection, love and self acceptance written in it.
“It’s for anybody that loves being in love, but seems to always subtly push it away because maybe it’s too warm, or maybe you feel like you don’t deserve it.”
The EP include the newest single ‘Turn Yourself Around’, which the Newcastle musician explains is a ‘vibes-forward’ single that is an onslaught of synthesisers and disco-laced grooves that explores the pitfalls of ego and empathy.
Ruairi said: “I created this song with Jules Apollinaire (Suki Waterhouse, Declan McKenna) and Natalie Findlay (Blossoms, Miles Kane) on my first day meeting them in 2023.
“I had a terrible flu and had flown from Belfast to London very late in the evening before almost cancelling the trip completely because of my illness.
“I was adamant that we had to make something that felt completely opposite to the flu running through me. In the end, me having a sick, nasally voice that day inspired me to alter my vocal sound completely.
“I wanted to write an honest song about unrequited love, and the passion you may have to encourage someone you love to make better decisions in their life, or at least see the goodness in the world that they have in front of them.”
The new EP promises to have a bedrock of psychedelic sounds that are weaved into a nostalgic but also futuristic journey of honesty, reflection and playfulness.
Earlier this year Ruairi released his first single in over a year, Forget to Remember, as he embarks on what promises to be a busy year for the Newcastle performer.
