St Paul’s Ulster Minor Football Tournament quarter-final

Mayobridge v Fr Rocks Cookstown (Tyrone)

MAYOBRIDGE’S St Paul’s Ulster Minor Tournament continues this weekend with a game against Fr Rocks, Cookstown, a team that they have every reason to be wary of.

Manager Francie Poland told the Mourne Observer that the Tyrone representatives are an unfamiliar opponent for the back-to-back Down champions.

But if there was ever a week to remind a team how dangerous and unfamiliar Tyrone teams can be, it is this one.

Sunday past, Kilcoo were beaten in the Ulster Club Senior Football final by an Errigal Ciaran team who were in their first club provincial decider in 22 years.

This Sunday, Mayobridge will travel to Belfast and the St Paul’s venue, perhaps with a greater level of wariness.

Manager Francie Poland told the Mourne Observer that his team will be ready.

“I see that they won the league and championship so you know they will be good. They are coming out of Tyrone so they will be a decent side.

“We know very little about them as they weren’t in the competition last year.

“So we will have to try and do a bit of homework on them and try and find out who their key men are.”
