14-YEAR-OLD snooker player Ryan Dornan followed up his recent appearance at the EBSA (European Billiards and Snooker Association) European U-16, U-18 and U-21 Championships by winning the Northern Ireland U-16 Snooker Championships on 17 April.
Loughinisland native and St Colmcille’s High School pupil Ryan beat Shea McConville, the number one ranked U-16 player in Northern Ireland, in the final in Magherafelt.
Ryan himself is currently ranked as the second best NIBSA (Northern Ireland Billiards and Snooker Association) U-16 player in the country.
His qualification for the EBSA Championships in March and his impressive victory over McConville in the U-16 final was complimented by an appearance in the final of the U-18 NIBSA Championships last Wednesday, where he lost out to Northern Ireland U-18 number one Joel Connolly.
Speaking on his win in the U-16 final, Ryan said, “It was a bit of a relief. It’s one I’ve been wanting to win all year, so to get my hands on the trophy was a good feeling.”
