Mourne First Responders

PEOPLE whose lives have been saved with the help of a local first responder group were amongst the very welcome faces to walk through the door for its third anniversary celebration on Saturday.

Since Mourne Community First Responders launched, its team of highly trained volunteers have attended over 300 incidents in the area it covers, including those in Annalong, Ballymartin, Kilkeel and Greencastle.

Established by Attical woman Helene Grant, it is a lasting tribute to her 17-yearold son, James, who in December 2019 tragically died alone, at home, after suffering an asthma attack.

Since the charity went active, its dedicated volunteers have been directly involved in hundreds of incidents.

Working in partnership with the NI Ambulance Service (NIAS), responders are directed to incidents which could be in the home, at the workplace or even in public, and provide appropriate treatment in advance of an ambulance’s arrival.
