Protestors, opposed to what they say is an “ill-conceived” proposal to build a visitor centre on the slopes of Slieve Donard, will take to the streets of Newcastle next month.
Details of their march, which has been lodged with the Parades Commission, were confirmed at a public meeting in the town last week.
It will set off at noon on Saturday 10 May from the Downs Road car park.
The ‘Save Our Donard (SOD Off!)’ group staged last week’s meeting and has organised next month’s march through Newcastle.
It was set up to oppose the council’s plans to develop the Mourne Gateway visitor centre and cable-car ride.
As it currently stands, the gondola would set off from Donard Park and lead to the disused Thomas Quarry site, but not to the summit.
