Mourne Park House has been placed on the market with an asking price of £3.5m. The Kilkeel property, which a sales description says is “undoubtedly one of Northern Ireland’s most famous and historic country homes,” was recently listed by estate agents Simon Brien.
The description also highlights that full planning permission to transform the house into “a 123-bedroom luxury hotel and spa offering premier accommodation” is in place. This was granted by former Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd in 2022, and it is also stated that there is “potential for a private residential care home.”
“The house and estate offer unparalleled opportunities for residential or specialist commercial and tourism redevelopment,” it continues. “Mourne Park is remarkable, not only for its presence and history but also for the enchanting arboretum and specimen trees laid out around formal lawns and parkland running down to the lake.”
There are two historic avenue entrances, which are guarded by two period gate lodges. The Mourne Park Estate also has two additional cottages and two gate lodges, which are in need of renovating and could potentially provide further accommodation.
