Murlough AC athletes braved the unseasonably bad weather on Sunday to take part in the annual Abi’s Butterfly Breeze 5k and 10k races in Portaferry. Despite the rain and wind, spirits were high and performances even higher, with 17 MAC runners taking to the start line in support of a truly worthy cause.

In the 5k, new member Ciara Laverty made a big impression, showcasing her talent, speed, and determination to finish as the first Murlough lady home. Hot on her heels was Patricia McEvoy Hogg, putting in another strong run.

Over the longer 10k distance, Brenda Doran continued her streak of impressive performances, finishing as the first Murlough lady, with Anne McCormick and Paula McKibbin close behind in second and third respectively.

Among the MAC men, Joe McMahon and Marty Rawlinson led the charge in the 10k, crossing the line as the club’s first and second male finishers, both turning in outstanding performances.

The challenging conditions didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of our runners, who showed real grit and camaraderie throughout. Post-race, everyone was treated to some fantastic hospitality—thanks in no small part to Cathy Brodie, the event organiser, her dedicated team of volunteers, Portaferry GAC, and the uplifting tunes from Bangor Ukuleles.
