THE Ark Community Gardens has experienced a sixth break-in in just over a month.
This morning the Newcastle charity posted this message on its social media account: ‘Unfortunately last night we have had yet another break-in. We are so sad that this has happened again’.
They had to close their farm, shop and cafe for the morning so that police could carry out an investigation, and also so their staff could clear up the mess.
But they were able to open at midday (Wednesday December 3).
One person on social media left this message for the group: ‘Praying this will be resolved, so you can carry on your good work, unhindered’.
The Ark Community Gardens had previously been targeted by a burglar on November 1, twice on November 2, and again on November 8 and November 23.
The group purchased a security camera system after the earlier break-ins and were able to spot the intruder in the later break-in on November 23.
At the time of the break in on November 23 the Ark’s director Joanna McCall told the Mourne Observer, ‘it has left the people who volunteer here feeling hurt’.
See next Wednesday’s Mourne Observer for full coverage of the break in.
