THE Netball NI U-16D Cup final delivered everything you’d want from a showpiece occasion: passion, intensity, drama, and ultimately, a well-deserved victory for the Newcastle U-16s in what was a thrilling encounter with Larkfield on Saturday.

This was the fourth meeting of the season between these two sides, with each of the previous matches fiercely contested and evenly matched, so it was no surprise that this final went right down to the wire.

But it was Newcastle who held their nerve, showed their class, and lifted the silverware after a composed and determined performance across the court.

It was a performance built on pure determination and desire to win. The whole squad played their part, both on and off the court.

Lucy S and Sophie were fully ready from the bench, supporting their teammates throughout and ready to step in at a moment’s notice. They were integral in the games leading to the final. It was a true team effort, reflecting the unity and spirit that has defined this group all season.

The coaches, Eileen and Erin, who have guided and motivated the team with dedication and care, can be incredibly proud of this result. Their hard work behind the scenes was rewarded in the best possible way, with a cup final victory and a shining moment of celebration with the team they’ve nurtured so well.

The support from the sidelines also played a massive part. Parents, friends, and family created an electric atmosphere, their voices lifting the team during every moment of the match. That energy helped carry the players through the pressure and into the glory they so richly deserved.

This win marks a fantastic end to a strong season. The girls can look back with pride, knowing they gave everything and were rewarded with the silverware they earned.

The future is bright for this talented squad, and this cup final win will be remembered for a long time to come.
