    Newcastle 49 Clann Éireann 37

NEWCASTLE Netball Club’s senior side delivered an outstanding performance in their final league game of the season, securing a well-deserved 49-37 victory over Clann Éireann on Sunday.

This result was not only a testament to the team’s hard work and progress throughout the season but also a dramatic turnaround from their previous meeting, which Clann Éireann had won decisively.

    Quarter one
Newcastle started the match with calm and composed play, demonstrating excellent teamwork and patience in their build-up.

Erin, stepping out of her usual defensive role to play GA, adapted brilliantly, showcasing sharp movement and accurate shooting.

Captain Clare led by example at GS, while Therese, Áine, and Aishling provided a strong defensive backbone.

Despite solid resistance from Clann Éireann, Newcastle ended the quarter narrowly behind, 9-12.

    Quarter two
The introduction of Deirdre at GS in the second quarter brought a new dynamic to Newcastle’s attack, her height and presence in the circle immediately paying dividends.

Erin returned to her familiar defensive role at WD, where she combined with Áine to disrupt Clann Éireann’s attacking rhythm.

Newcastle maintained their composure under pressure, carefully valuing possession of the ball and executing clinical plays. They remained unfazed by the impressive shooting of Clann Éireann’s GS, keeping their defensive structure intact.

By halftime, Newcastle had taken the lead (22-20), showing remarkable resilience and focus.
