Newcastle Town Forest 5 Ardglass IIs 1

Ardglass IIs travelled down to Donard Park for a game against Newcastle Town Forest in the Newcastle League KitRoom Plate group stage on Saturday.

Newcastle kicked off and put themselves under pressure from the get-go, giving the ball to Ardglass winger Sean Carr who crossed the ball for Jamie Clarke.

Clarke looked set to score but was thwarted by a great save from Newcastle’s keeper Paddy Baker.

Newcastle cleared their lines with a long ball over the top for Aaron McClelland to run onto, giving Newcastle a surprise 1-0 lead when he thumped his shot past Ardglass keeper Johnston.

Newcastle nearly made it 2-0 with only ten minutes on the clock when a through ball from Phillip Bonny found striker Donal Acton, but his shot was well saved by Johnson.

After 13 minutes, Newcastle did add to their lead when another ball played through by Dodds in midfield found Donal Acton unmarked and this time Acton decided to dink a shot over the keeper’s head to make it 2-0 to the home side.

Newcastle were at it again on 25 minutes when a great run down the wing by Jamie McKee ended with a ball to the back post for Phillip Dodds who rocketed his shot past keeper Johnston.
