Newcastle Town Football Club organised an Easter Camp at Donard Park over the school break, and it proved to be a real success, with almost 100 boys and girls taking part. What was particularly pleasing was the number of new faces, as around 30 boys and girls were attending a football camp for the first time.
Easter Camp coach Paul Moore said: “We have had a brilliant three days, with the weather being kind although a wee bit windy. It was great to see so many boys and girls turning up and enjoying themselves.”
As an added treat, the Newcastle Town club were able to secure the services of Northern Ireland footballing legend Mal Donaghy. “We were really pleased to be able to get Mal down to help out, particularly as we had four young lads getting some valuable work experience. I am sure Mal’s experience and enthusiasm will rub off on the four of them,” Newcastle Town Chairman Adrian Howard explained.
As usual, the camp focussed on boys and girls learning new skills, but also making new friends. The Easter Camp sets down a marker for Newcastle Town’s summer programme of football camps.
Easter Camp coach Johnny Harbinson explained: “Our Easter Camp gives us the opportunity to gauge interest in football, and to get an idea of what works well so we can replicate things in our Summer Camp. We were particularly pleased to be able to offer four of our youth team members, Patrick, Ryan, Padraig and Brady, the opportunity to volunteer on the camps and to gain valuable experience that will help them with their school studies.”
