Newcastle woman Emma Kilgore will undertake a fundraising cold water challenge for Gaza on Sunday.

A Newcastle woman will undertake a cold water challenge on the Glen River trail to raise funds for a Gazan family this weekend. Emma Kilgore will take 10 dips in 10 different waterfall pools – three minutes in each (a total of 30 minutes) without wetsuit gear – along the trail on Sunday.

In an online post, she wrote: “The purpose of this is to replicate some of the extreme conditions experienced daily by those living in Gaza. The hope is that this may raise awareness of their suffering. The aim of this extreme challenge is to have at least 100 people donate £20 each to raise urgent lifesaving funds for a family in Gaza.”

The challenge will begin at the third bridge below the Slieve Donard path at 1.30pm and will complete at Donard Park at 2.30pm. Emma organised various events throughout 2025 for Mohammed Al Najarr – who reached out to her through Instagram – and his family, who have been surviving in tents since their home was bombed over two years ago.
