Suspected drugs seized during search of house…

SUSPECTED cannabis with an estimated street value of £15,000 and cash were seized by police when they searched a house in Newcastle on Monday.

Two men, aged 19 and 50, were arrested on suspicion of a number of drugs offences as a result of the search at Dunwellan Park.

They were later released on bail to allow for further enquiries.

Details of the search were confirmed yesterday by Newry, Mourne and Down District’s PSNI commander, Superintendent Norman Haslett, who said that he and his colleagues “are actively committed to removing illegal drugs from our streets”, and that they “proactively investigate and carry out searches to disrupt this activity, and those involved in the drugs trade”.

He also took the opportunity to appeal directly to those who have information about the use or supply of drugs, asking them to call police on the 101 non-emergency number or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
