At the Derby velodrome during a recent school games Poppy Hamilton broke a record

    By William Hamilton

POPPY Hamilton has been confirmed as a new Irish record holder in the F200 after she rode 200 metres in a time of 13.425 seconds at the Derby Velodrome in the recent School Games.

Last week, Poppy received the news she’s been waiting for as Poppy’s time at the School Games was confirmed as being a new Irish record, a massive boost to the end of what has been a very successful season, with many wins and PBs along the way.

Then on Saturday past, she switched her attention to the Ulster Road and Time Trial Championships.

With little to no training specific to the event, Poppy showed exactly what’s she’s made off when she came away with two silver medals on the day to bring her road season to a close for the year.

Now it’s time for Poppy to to rest up and start training again in a couple of weeks for her next race, which is in Glasgow on 9 November.

That will effectively start her build up for next season, were she will race again in the U-16 category.

With a big test behind her, she is looking forward to fresh challenges and coming back stronger in the year ahead.
