Spa primary school children are taking part in a programme where they visit local nursing homes in order to connect with older people

A group of primary school children have visited Spa Nursing Home for the third time as part of a project that organisers say has lifted the spirits of the residents.

Last Wednesday, ten pupils from Spa Primary School visited the nursing home for a spring tea party, where they made daffodils with the residents and played bingo and pass the parcel.

The Spa Primary School pupils have visited the nursing home twice before.

The first event was at Christmas and the second was on World Book Day, when the children read to the residents.

Spa Nursing Home activity co-ordinator Sara Mitchell said the project has been a resounding success.

“Our residents love it,” Sara said. “It is just lovely to see them engaging. They are able to chat and communicate and all the barriers are broken down. Some of the residents who are usually quite quiet were very responsive.”
