IT WAS a big week for Saul, Glenn, Dromara and Darragh Cross this week as all four teams are celebrating promotion to higher divisions.
Saul’s 1-12 to 2-7 victory over Saval on Monday night means they can’t be caught in Division Two and head for Division One football next year. They are three points ahead of second place Downpatrick. Saul play An Riocht in their final game on Friday.
The team to finish second is not yet certain and is a race between RGU Downpatrick and Bryansford.
RGU play Liatroim on Friday while Bryansford play Newry Shamrocks. Downpatrick are a point ahead so they just need to win secure promotion, while Bryansford are hoping for a slip up to allow them to leapfrog into second place.
In Division Three, Glenn beat Clann na Banna on Friday night, and then had the points conceded to them on Monday which means they are champions, as they are five ahead of the chasing pair, Drumgath and Annaclone.
Both of those teams are in with a shout of getting the second promotion spot, as they are tied on 27 points. Annaclone lost to Drumgath on Monday in the penultimate game of the campaign, which means the latter side are fancied.
Annaclone play Glenn on Friday while Drumgath meet Tullylish.
In Division Four, promotions were secured for Dromara and Darragh Cross on Friday night.
Dromara’s 1-18 to 1-5 win over St Paul’s and Darragh’s 1-12 to 0-8 victory over Glasdrumman put both sides into the promotion spots, five points ahead of Glasdrumman who had a slim chance of getting promotion.
This Friday will see big clashes as more teams seek to gain promotion or avoid relegation. Read the previews and analysis in this week’s paper.
