SIXTEEN children with 100% attendance were honoured at a special assembly in Downpatrick Primary School.

Their certificates were presented by Mrs Elsie Storey, Chair of the school’s board of governors.

School principal Mr Niall Stevenson said: “It is wonderful for us as a school family to mark and celebrate these 16 children who achieved a year’s full attendance over the 2024-25 school year.

“That is a combined 2960 days! Achieving 100% attendance is a team effort and I should like to thank the children and especially their parents for treasuring the gift of education and ensuring that their child gets to school every morning.”

He continued: “Following the upheaval of the pandemic it has been a real challenge for all schools to keep attendance levels up where we would wish them to be.

“Downpatrick PS has always put great emphasis on encouraging pupils to have high attendance rates and it has been very pleasing to have had 52 children have 100% attendance in the summer term just past.

“This bodes well for our attendance rates for 2025-26.  It has been proven that one of the most important indicators of success in school is going to school and the children who attend do not miss out on the excellent education available to them in school.

“We were also delighted to welcome back two former P7 children who are now at Down High School and came back especially to receive their 100% certificates!”
