A CHARITY fundraiser to launch a recently recorded song featuring two local choirs and Tony Allen of renowned duo Foster and Allen will be held on St Patrick’s Day.

The Millbrook Lodge in Ballynahinch will host the special 17 March event for the official release of ‘Try a Little Kindness’ – the featured choirs are the Castlewellan InterChurch Choir and the Moneydarragh Melody Makers – with all proceeds going to MYMY (Mind Your Mate and Yourself), a community-based mental health and wellbeing charity located in Newcastle.

The new version of the song, originally a hit for American singer Glen Campbell in 1970, was recorded by Gerard Dornan in Ballynahinch’s Hillside Studio.

Mona Owens, the musical director of both choirs, said that she feels “very proud of having Tony, a worldwide star of music, with us on this project” to benefit a very worthy cause.

“The money will help fund counselling services to those people who are most in need of that special someone who can reach out the hand of friendship, have the ability to listen and have the professional manner to offer peace of mind,” she added.

“All people working on this project have given their time and energy free – all to raise funds for this wonderful charity in our local community.”

Gerard Dornan of Country Harmony and other country music performers will provide music on the night.
