SANTANDER’S Downpatrick branch will shut in August as part of the bank’s network transformation, which it says will help it “better serve the changing needs of its customers”.
The news was confirmed last Wednesday – a total of 95 UK branches, seven of which are in Northern Ireland, are set to close – and has been greeted with disappointment by local political representatives.
In a statement, Santander confirmed its plans to “update its branch network from June 2025 to better serve the changing needs of its customers”, which will see the town branch shut from 6 August.
“As part of the changes, 95 of the bank’s existing 444 branches will be closed,” it read.
