Saul GAC held a blitz on Saturday past which, as well as a fun day out for the teams involved, was also an opportunity to highlight the issue of ending violence against women in our society.

The event was organised by club members Lindsay Hanna, Jenny McCullough, and Christine Campbell, and was a great success, as seven teams from across Down took part.

One of the organisers, Jenny McCullough, told the Mourne Observer why they were keen to promote the campaign to end violence against women.

“We wanted an event to spread awareness about the epidemic in Northern Ireland, as it is one of the most dangerous places to be a woman,” Jenny said.

“Respect for women and girls is such a big issue that’s coming to the forefront. There’s a lack of knowledge on our parts about what can we do. There are things we can all do to help try and eradicate it and if we can’t eradicate it, help mitigate against it. There are signs you can look for in different things and I think a lot of it is just knowing what they are.”
