Saul's Rory Mullen

SAUL make history on Sunday when they play their first Division One ACFL game against county champions Kilcoo (Saul, 6.30pm).

Senior player Rory Mullen explained why he and his team mates are looking forward to the test.

After years of battling to get to the top tier, the club finally have a mens team playing Division One football. Rory explained that they know exactly how their opponents will perceive them.

He said, “It’s going to be very challenging. The big thing for us is that nobody expects anything. In a lot of other teams’ eyes, we’re probably already relegated.

“So we have a good opportunity to go and cause a few upsets.

“But it definitely is going to be a lot more difficult than what it has been over the last few years for us.”

Rory should know as he is playing in his 15th year of senior men’s football for Saul, and has been part of the club’s rise.

“There’s few of us who have played in Division Four, Three, Two and then this will be us up into Division One now for the first time.”

“We do have a lot of experience, yes, maybe not at Division One level, but we’ve kind of experienced a lot. So, we’re confident enough.”
