Following a constructive engagement last night (Thursday January 15) between Saval GAC and the county board, the club have agreed to remove their motion to call for all Down intercounty teams to withdraw from competitions sponsored by Allianz.

The initial motion was made following the GAA’s Ethics and Integrity Commission’s report to Croke Park management in December that the contract with Allianz would continue and that was ratified immediately.

This led to Saval putting forward the following motion:

“The committee of Saval GAC propose that Coiste Uí Chontae An Dún urgently consider withdrawal from all inter-county fixtures and competitions that bear Allianz as lead sponsor.

“We have read the media release on the Ethics and Integrity Commission report to the 15-person management committee and vehemently disagree with their stance, and believe it to be completely at odds with the views of the members of our Association, and indeed the very ethos of the GAA.”

However, last night Saval released the statement that said; “We confirm that we have had extensive discussions with the Down County Board and we thank them and especially Sean Og for their help, guidance and support.

“As a result we hereby confirm that our motion this evening is withdrawn and refer everyone to the statement released by Down GAA this afternoon.”
