The Schomberg Society celebrated St Patrick’s Day with a prestigious performance at a VIP event in the Palace of Westminster. Four senior dancers from the society’s Kirknarra School of Dance — Bethany Shields, Ivana Morris, Rachel Wilson and Mya Campbell — made history as the first Scottish Highland dancers to perform at the iconic venue.
They were joined by Ulster-Scots singer Rachel Hutchinson, who also performed at the high-profile Parliamentary St Patrick’s Day Reception. The event provided an opportunity to showcase Ulster-Scots music, song and dance to more than 200 invited guests, many of whom were experiencing the culture for the first time.
A spokesperson for the Schomberg Society described the occasion as a fantastic opportunity and praised the performers for representing Ulster-Scots culture to the highest standard. Thanks were also extended to Jim Shannon MP and Andrew Rosindell MP for hosting the event and inviting the group to take part in what was described as a memorable and special occasion.
The performance formed part of a wider programme of events organised by the society to mark St Patrick’s Day, including its Mini Ulster-Scots St Patrick’s Festival celebrating “Patrick, Ulster’s Scottish Saint.”
