O’Hares, Newcastle welcomed a large crowd on Saturday (10 January), as spectators cheered on their club boxers in memory of the great Mourne All Blacks boxer, Stephen Sweeney.

The Stephen Sweeney Memorial Cup was won by fantastic young boxer Sé Clarke, a really deserving champion indeed. Mason McCartan won the Best Club Member award for his perfect attendance and participation at All Blacks training each week.

Mourne All Blacks thanks O’Hares for providing the perfect venue, referees Paul Quinn and Sean McCartan, Kerry and Erin May Trainor on the door, club officials, members, judges, volunteers and all the fantastic boxers who took part. A special thanks goes to Nicky Scott, compère for the night, who controlled the mic, and to the Sweeney family, who have raised thousands of pounds over the years for various charities. Stephen would be very proud of you all.

Finally, the Mourne All Blacks would like to thank the following clubs who travelled in such poor weather conditions: Canal ABC, Camlough ABC, Bryansford ABC, Pegasus ABC, St Bronagh’s ABC and Star of the Sea ABC.
