ST Joseph’s Primary School, Carnacaville, is bidding a fond farewell to its dedicated principal, Christopher McCann.
Mr McCann is stepping down after 15 years in the role and in a glowing tribute the local primary school said he leaves behind a school community “that has been profoundly shaped by his tenure”.
A special retirement Mass was held at the school last week to honour Mr McCann.
In its tribute the school praised his “dedicated leadership” and his “unwavering commitment” to ensuring “every single child can thrive”.
“Since taking up the helm 15 years ago, Mr McCann’s impact on Carnacaville has been nothing short of transformative,” the tribute added. “Under his leadership, the school underwent a modern extension, providing bright, spacious classrooms and vibrant learning areas for the entire school community to enjoy. This development ensured that the physical environment matched the high standards of education inside the classrooms.
“Perhaps the most heartfelt of Mr McCann’s achievements is his unwavering commitment to making Carnacaville a place where every single child can thrive.”
The tribute outlined how he had championed the introduction of the school’s Rainbow Room – a specialised classroom for children with learning difficulties.
“This initiative opened the school’s doors wider than ever before, ensuring Carnacaville was truly able to cater to the entire local community.
“Furthering this mission, Mr McCann recently oversaw the installation of a brand-new play park. Designed to support the physical development of the Rainbow Room pupils, it also serves as a vibrant, fun-filled space for the whole school to enjoy together.
“Beyond the physical improvements to the school, Mr McCann has always been deeply interested in Carnacaville’s school culture.”
During his time at St Joseph’s Primary School, he has been a committed supporter of the arts and sport. On Friday afternoons he could regularly be found coaching basketball, encouraging teamwork and creativity among the students.
“While his physical legacy is visible in the modern buildings and the state-of-the-art playground, his true legacy lives on in the spirit of the pupils,” the tribute added.
