POPULAR country music duo Southern Sounds, Gerry Flanagan and Denise Cunningham, are celebrating after taking home the award for Best Duet of the Year at the prestigious Irish Entertainment Awards.
The talented pair received the honour for their much-loved recording of ‘If Teardrops Were Pennies’, a song that has captured the hearts of country music fans across Ireland and beyond.
The award recognises the outstanding success of the duet, which has enjoyed extensive airplay on many Irish country music radio stations throughout the year.
The Irish Entertainment Awards brought together some of the biggest names in the industry, with award winners on the night including country music stars Margo, Brendan Quinn, Eamon Jackson, Claudia Buckley, and many more.
Speaking after receiving the award, Gerry, who is from Dundrum, and Denise, originally from Leitrim but who lives in Annalong, expressed their delight and gratitude.
“We are absolutely thrilled to win this award,” they said.
“It’s wonderful to know that so many people have enjoyed our version of ‘If Teardrops Were Pennies’.
“We would like to thank all the radio presenters, stations, and especially the fans who have supported us and requested the song.”
The duo added that sharing the stage with so many respected artists made the achievement even more special.
