TASTE OF ULSTER GIVES KILMOREY ARMS TOP MARKS

THE Kilmorey Arms Hotel in Kilkeel is a locally run business that has been exceeding customers’ expectations for more than 180 years.

The hotel, located at Greencastle Street, is known for providing great food and hospitality.

It recently received a 100 percent perfect score in its Taste of Ulster 2024 inspection, making it one of the top dining establishments in County Down and only the second business in Northern Ireland to receive such a high rating this year.

The Kilmorey Arms restaurant is a favourite place with local people and visitors for both weekday meals and special occasions.

As the Kilmorey Arms is based in the biggest fishing port in Northern Ireland, the restaurant has a reputation for using the finest fresh and seasonal seafood, meats and produce to create elegant and tasty meals.

The hotel opened its doors in 1843 and since then has hosted well-known people, such as Sir Winston Churchill and American President Dwight Eisenhower.

The building may be historic, but the recently refurbished premises are modern and inviting to guests. The Kilmorey Arms Hotel proprietors Sam and Lenore Hamilton have completed renovations to the hotel’s restaurant, lounge and bar, beer garden and the Executive Suite.

Sam and Lenore, who took over management of the hotel in 2015, would like to thank all their staff for all their hard work throughout the year as it would not be possible to run the hotel without them.

The listed building has 24 guest bedrooms, a restaurant, fully licenced bar and lounge, and function rooms.

The Kilmorey Arms Hotel is a great place for a night out, as there is live entertainment every weekend, as well as a variety of delicious menu specials.

From Friday through Sunday, there is live entertainment in the Front Lounge Bar, with good craic, great cocktails and even better music. There is also Bingo on Tuesday nights at 8pm.

The Kilmorey Arms Hotel also has an outdoor beer garden for those interested in enjoying the fresh air while they sip a pint or enjoy a glass of wine. The beer garden is dog-friendly, so guests can feel free to bring their favourite pet along.

One thing that sets the hotel apart is its courtesy bus service, available to those who live or are staying within a five-mile radius of the Kilmorey Arms. It means people can enjoy a drink with their meal and leave the driving to the hotel’s professional drivers.

This complimentary service is available seven days a week for local residents as well as those staying at caravan sites and self-catering accommodation in the area. Pre-booking is essential and at least four hours’ notice must be given. Phone 028 4176 2220 to arrange a pick-up and drop-off time.
