A local author and teacher is celebrating the publication of her latest children’s book. Dawn Gelston, from Teconnaught, recently put out her second book in the ‘Felicity Flipflops’ series.
A sequel to the original ‘Felicity Flipflops’ book, which was published in 2022, Felicity Flipflops: Fearless Footsteps sees the main character Felicity show her courage and confidence when trying something new.
Felicity is an 11-year-old girl who loves wearing flipflops. Dawn said the book will appeal to children aged eight to 12. “We always encourage children to work hard, not be afraid, and dream big. This book is ideal for classroom teaching, and for children transitioning from primary school into high school,” she said.
Fans of the first Felicity book should also enjoy this one as they read about the main character’s new adventures, when Felicity finds herself facing brand-new challenges that continue to gently push her beyond her comfort zone. “Trying new things can be tricky, especially when self-doubt sneaks in, but with the support of her friends, a little determination, and growing belief in herself, Felicity learns that being brave doesn’t mean never feeling scared. It means giving things a go anyway,” the local author explained.
The book has been illustrated by Lena Petrosyan, who Dawn described as “super talented.” Dawn said she thinks her books are ones that children can connect with their own lives. “The characters and storyline are relatable and grounded in real-life experiences, making them meaningful for children.
“These books achieve exactly what I set out to do, which brings me great happiness and pride. They carry strong, empowering messages that encourage children to believe in themselves and to persevere,” she explained.
